Some Russian airports suspend operations amid drone attacks

14 January 2025 10:07

Temporary restrictions on the arrival and departure of aircraft have been imposed at airports in Penza and Ulyanovsk, according to Russia's Federal Agency for Air Transport (Rosaviatsiya).

Restrictions also remain in place at airports in Kazan and Saratov, Caliber.Az reports.

During the night, several regions of Russia were targeted by drone attacks. Drones were intercepted and downed in the Tula, Saratov, Rostov, and Voronezh regions, though no casualties have been reported.

Meanwhile, Ukrainian drones have attacked a gas compressor station that is part of the TurkStream pipeline, which carries Russian gas to Europe via Türkiye, according to Russia's Defence Ministry.

The assault targeted the Russkaya pumping station in the Krasnodar region, located approximately 320km (198 miles) from the Ukrainian-Russian front lines. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov condemned the attack as “energy terrorism,” accusing Ukraine’s “transoceanic friends” of orchestrating it.

Meanwhile, Russian forces are redirecting their efforts in eastern Ukraine. Rather than continuing their prolonged battle to capture the strategically significant town of Pokrovsk, Russia is now concentrating on severing supply lines to the city. Ukrainian military officials have stated that Russian troops are targeting a major highway that connects Pokrovsk to the central Ukrainian city of Dnipro.
