Son of former Armenian Army general arrested in protest rallies
Igor Khachaturov, son of the former Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Armenia, Yuri Khachaturov, has been arrested on charges of using violence against a government official.
The statement was made by the press service of the Investigative Committee of Armenia, Caliber.Az informs, citing the Armenian media.
On May 17, Khachaturov was reportedly detained during an opposition protest for disobeying a lawful demand from the police.
“In the course of the investigation, information was received that Igor Khachaturov, who used violence against a police officer, was under the influence of a drug during this incident,” the Committee notes.
Currently, the investigating authority has decided to appoint a forensic chemical examination. However, Khachaturov refused to provide samples. The preliminary investigation of the criminal case is ongoing. Necessary measures are being taken to conduct an objective and comprehensive investigation.
