Son of former Armenian top lawmaker detained in anti-corruption probe
Armenia’s Anti-Corruption Committee has announced the detention of several individuals, including the former head of the State Property Management Committee.
“In the framework of a criminal case concerning offenses under various articles of the Armenian Criminal Code, several individuals have been detained, including the former head of the State Property Management Committee and other former high-ranking officials,” the Committee said, Caliber.Az reports, citing Armenian media.
The Committee declined to provide further details, citing the interests of the ongoing preliminary investigation.
Mediahub reported that the detainee is former MP and ex-head of the State Property Management Committee, Arman Sahakyan. His arrest notably coincided with the birthday of his late father, former Parliament Speaker Galust Sahakyan.
Arman Sahakyan has previously faced allegations of abuse of office and money laundering. Last year, the court placed him under administrative supervision as a preventive measure in connection with the case.
