South Caucasus situation set to dominate Türkiye’s security council meeting

The Turkish National Security Council will hold its latest meeting on August 6, with developments in the South Caucasus included among the items on the agenda.

The council will convene under the chairmanship of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan at the Presidential Complex in Beştepe, Caliber.Az reports per Turkish media.

Participants are expected to discuss recent developments in the South Caucasus, as well as other pressing regional and international security issues.

The main item on the agenda will be the new “Terror-Free Türkiye” legislative proposal, which has already been submitted to the Turkish parliament. The National Security Council will also review the progress of counterterrorism operations being carried out across the country.

The meeting will also cover diplomatic efforts to resolve the ongoing crisis between the United States and Iran, as well as maritime security in the Black Sea.

Other agenda items include recent developments in Cyprus, the situation in Syria and Iraq, Israeli operations in the region, and the Russia-Ukraine war.

The council is also expected to pay particular attention to developments in African countries.
