South Caucasus undergoing major changes, Georgian PM says

Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze has said the South Caucasus is undergoing a period of significant change, stressing the importance of regional cooperation in promoting peace, connectivity and economic development.

Kobakhidze made the remarks while addressing the “Partners for multilateralism, international law, peace and prosperity summit,” held on the sidelines of the 81st session of the UN General Assembly.

He emphasized the importance of international peace and security, as well as efforts to prevent conflicts.

“The South Caucasus is undergoing a period of significant change, and increasing attention is being paid to its economic and strategic potential. We welcome the progress achieved in the peace process between our neighbors and believe that strengthening regional cooperation can create new opportunities in areas such as trade, connectivity, and economic development. Georgia remains committed to upholding the principles necessary to achieve lasting peace and prosperity,” Kobakhidze said.

A declaration adopted at the summit underlined the importance of joint efforts, respect for international law and multilateral partnership amid growing pressure on the global order.
