South Korea dispatches special envoy to Iran over Hormuz situation
10 April 2026 09:37
South Korea has announced that it will dispatch a special envoy to Iran to assess the situation in the Middle East, according to the country’s Foreign Ministry.
Seoul said the decision comes amid conflicting statements from the United States and Iran regarding the status of the opening of the Strait of Hormuz. The envoy’s deployment was agreed during a phone call between South Korean Foreign Minister Cho Hyun and his Iranian counterpart Seyed Abbas Araghchi, Caliber.Az reports, citing the Iranian news agency Mehr.
Since the outbreak of the conflict on February 28 and Iran’s closure of the Strait, 26 vessels linked to South Korean companies have been stranded in the Strait of Hormuz.
