South Korea, Poland discuss expanding defence partnership
South Korea Speaker of the National Assembly Woo Won-shik met Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk on April 13 to discuss ways to expand bilateral cooperation in defence, energy, and infrastructure.
Woo Won-shik and Tusk held talks at the National Assembly building in Seoul after the Polish leader’s summit with President Lee Jae Myung, Caliber.Az reports, citing Korean media.
The parliamentary speaker expressed hope that bilateral relations could be elevated to a “comprehensive and future-oriented” partnership, noting Poland’s Solidarity movement in the 1980s, which played a key role in the country’s transition away from communist rule.
He also asked Poland to support the swift implementation of a major arms deal signed in 2022 and to reduce uncertainty faced by South Korean companies due to EU battery regulations.
In response, Tusk said the two countries could cooperate in many areas beyond business and called for joint efforts to strengthen peace and address human rights violations in the international community.
