South Korea's impeached president faces second round of questioning over martial law declaration
Investigators are set to continue questioning impeached President Yoon Suk Yeol today at 2 p.m. over his controversial imposition of martial law last December.
The Corruption Investigation Office for High-ranking Officials (CIO) confirmed that the second day of questioning will proceed in the afternoon, following a rescheduling request made by Yoon citing health concerns, Caliber.Az reports via South Korean media.
Yoon's legal representative, Yun Gap-geun, stated that the president would not be answering any further questions. "President Yoon is not well and fully explained his position yesterday, so there is nothing more to be interrogated about," Yun said.
Yoon, who was detained at his residence and taken to the CIO office in Gwacheon on January 15, spent the night at a detention facility after over 10 hours of questioning. The investigation is focused on charges of insurrection and abuse of power linked to his decision to declare martial law on December 3.
Despite being questioned for a lengthy period, Yoon refused to answer any questions during the session, according to the CIO. His lawyers have also filed for a review of the legality of the detention warrant issued against him, questioning the validity of his arrest.
