South Korean president warns of ending ceasefire if Pyongyang again crossed airspace
South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol considers suspending a 2018 inter-Korean military pact should North Korea violate its airspace again.
According to Yonhap news agency, citing his press secretary, he gave this warning on January 4 after being briefed on countermeasures to North Korean drones that crossed into the South last week, calling for building an "overwhelming response capability that goes beyond proportional levels".
The relationship between North and South Korea has been rocky for decades but has grown even tenser after Yoon took office in May 2022 and pledged to adopt a tougher policy against Pyongyang.
President Yoon previously criticized the military's handling of the recent drone incident and in part blamed the previous administration for relying on the 2018 pact banning hostile activities in the border areas.
