South Sudan tightens health checks on border with DR Congo To prevent possible Ebola outbreak
South Sudan is strengthening health screening along its border with the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) to prevent the possible importation of Ebola.
Particular attention is being paid to the Nabiapai border crossing, which is used by hundreds of people every day, Caliber.Az reports via foreign media.
The flow increases significantly when cross-border markets are operating. According to health worker Severio Peter, between 800 and 1,000 people are screened at the crossing each day.
Western Equatoria State Health Minister Nama Bukulu called for expanded health controls, including the introduction of night shifts to screen people crossing the border after official checkpoints have closed.
No Ebola cases have been reported in South Sudan so far. However, heavy cross-border movement and the presence of unofficial routes increase the risk of the virus being imported.
