Speaker: Chapter of Russian border guards' withdrawal from Yerevan airport closed
Armenian National Assembly Speaker Alen Simonyan told a briefing that the issue of the withdrawal of Russian border guards from Yerevan's Zvartnots airport has been closed and that Yerevan and Moscow are no longer discussing it.
He said that as far as Armenia is concerned this is already a solved problem and there is no more discussion about it, Caliber.Az report citing Armenian media.
"There are attempts to make this look like violating an inter-state agreement. It was an inter-agency agreement, the purpose of which was to benefit the Armenian border guards in this section, to ease their burden. There is no longer any need to alleviate that burden. We have told Russia that we are grateful for their help, but now we do not need it. By August 1 this year, the Russian border guards will leave Zvartnots," Simonyan said.
It should be noted that on March 6, Armenia declared the decision to end the duties of the Russian Border Guards at Zvartnots International Airport in the capital Yerevan.
