Spokesman: Hamas signals flexibility in talks with mediators
Spokesman for Hamas Abdul Latif al-Qanou has announced Hamas’ willingness to show flexibility in negotiations with mediators and is awaiting the outcome of efforts led by Egypt, Qatar, and the US in their ongoing talks with Israel.
Al-Qanou, confirmed the shift in position, stating, "We have softened our demands at the request of the mediators and Trump's envoy, and we await the results of the negotiations. Israel's duty is to agree to move to the second stage," Caliber.Az reports via foreign media.
He also emphasised the objectives of the negotiations, saying, "The talks are based on ending the war, withdrawing, and rebuilding the Gaza Strip. We agree to the Egyptian proposal to establish a committee responsible for managing the Gaza Strip and its reconstruction."
In his comments, he expressed concern over Israel's actions, noting that "Israel's decision to cut off electricity and talk about resuming the fighting constitutes a threat to the hostages. They will only be released through negotiations."
Israel's decision to cut off electricity and threaten to resume fighting in Gaza has raised serious concerns about the safety of hostages held by Hamas. The move is part of Israel's broader strategy to pressure Hamas, but it has been criticised for potentially endangering the lives of civilians, including hostages. Cutting off electricity has exacerbated the already dire humanitarian situation in Gaza, affecting hospitals, water supplies, and other essential services. The threat to resume fighting further complicates negotiations for hostages' release, as it increases the risks and challenges in securing their safe return. Hamas has emphasised that hostages will only be released through negotiations, warning that such actions by Israel could jeopardize any chances of a peaceful resolution.
