Iran-US talks held in atmosphere of distrust, no deal expected — Tehran
12 April 2026 09:34
Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei stated that negotiations between Iranian and US representatives in Islamabad took place in an atmosphere of mistrust, according to Mehr News Agency.
“These negotiations took place after 40 days of imposed war and were conducted in an atmosphere of mistrust and suspicion; it is natural that, from the beginning, we should not have expected to reach an agreement within a single session,” the diplomat noted.
He added that the sides were able to reach understanding on a number of issues. However, on two or three key points, the positions of Washington and Tehran diverged, which ultimately prevented a final agreement.
