State Department: US to welcome any country's efforts to normalise relations between Yerevan and Baku
"If any country wants to cooperate with us on Armenia and Azerbaijan and help us come to a peaceful resolution, we would certainly welcome that. But we have not seen any effort from Russia, which you may be talking about."
Caliber.Az reports quoting Armenian media that this is how Vedant Patel, a representative of the State Department, responded to a question about whether the US had concerns that Russia might jeopardize the process between Yerevan and Baku with the mediation of the West.
Earlier, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said that the West is trying to interfere in the process of settling relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan. "We see in this yet another attempt to wedge into the settlement of relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan by any means. To push aside Russia's mediation efforts...We know from history that the EU missions did not lead to a real settlement," she said.
