Storm Johannes kills three, inflicts decade’s worst forest damage in Sweden
Storm Johannes, which swept across Sweden, has claimed three lives and caused the country’s largest forest damage in a decade.
The storm destroyed at least 10 million cubic meters of forest resources, primarily in the Dalarna and Gävleborg regions north of Stockholm, Caliber.Az reports via foreign media.
Johannes hit Norway, Sweden, and Finland on December 27–28, 2025, bringing hurricane-force winds to the Scandinavian mountains.
In Sweden, incidents involving falling trees resulted in three fatalities and left over 40,000 residents without electricity. Assessing the full extent of the damage remains challenging, and final loss estimates are expected to rise.
Experts warn that such widespread destruction not only harms the environment but may also have long-term consequences for the timber market.
