Storm Nils hits France, leaving one dead, widespread disruptions VIDEO
Storm Nils has struck southwest France, killing one person and injuring several others, while causing major disruptions to rail and road transport.
Authorities have issued a red alert in five regions due to hurricane-force winds, flood risks, and avalanche threats, with an additional 29 regions under an orange alert, Caliber.Az reports via French media.
In the Landes region near the town of Mées, a truck driver was killed when a tree fell on his vehicle, and four others sustained minor injuries, including incidents involving overturned trucks on the roads.

As of the latest reports, around 900,000 homes are without electricity, with Nouvelle-Aquitaine and Occitanie the hardest hit. Nearly 1,500 technicians have been deployed to restore power. Wind gusts have reached between 120 and 162 km/h.

Rail services have been severely affected. Trains are not running at Bayonne, Biarritz, and Hendaye stations, and suburban rail lines across the southwest are heavily disrupted. Train services between Narbonne and Perpignan have been completely suspended, with additional disruptions reported in other regions.
Road transport is also affected. Trucks are banned on major routes in the Aude and Eastern Pyrenees regions and in parts of the Hautes-Pyrénées. Numerous flight cancellations and interruptions to maritime transport have also been reported.
