Strait of Hormuz crisis dominates EU-China talks
EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas and Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi held a phone conversation to discuss the situation in Iran and its impact on global energy and security.
Sharing a post on X, Kallas said that Iranian attacks on civilian vessels and the threat of further attacks have effectively paralysed traffic through the Strait of Hormuz, Caliber.Az reports.
"This is why restoring safe, toll-free navigation in the Strait, in accordance with the Law of the Sea, is an urgent priority. The EU supports all diplomatic efforts to achieve this and calls for de-escalation and restraint. Attacks against civilians and civilian infrastructure must cease," she wrote.
Kallas also noted that they discussed EU-China relations.
On March 31, China welcomed a visit by a delegation of European Union lawmakers—the first in eight years—as an opportunity to further stabilise ties strained by trade policies and political mistrust.
