Strait of Hormuz more valuable than nuclear weapons, Iranian MP says

The strategic value of the Strait of Hormuz to Iran under the current geopolitical conditions is greater than that of nuclear weapons, Iranian parliament praesidium member Alireza Salimi has said.

Salimi noted that control over the vital transportation artery enables Tehran to more effectively withstand external pressure, as well as seek the easing of economic sanctions and compensation, Caliber.Az reports, citing ISNA.

The lawmaker urged Iran not to abuse the leverage provided by control of the strait.

“We should not abuse the use of the Strait of Hormuz. It has its own characteristics, and we must use the strait properly,” Salimi stressed.

He also added that US actions had created additional opportunities for Iran to make more effective use of the strategic waterway.
