Suspicious man detained in Kazakhstan after grenade found in bag
Police in Almaty, Kazakhstan, have detained a man whose behaviour raised suspicion among officers.
During a search, police found a knife and an object resembling a hand grenade in his bag. A forensic-operational team and bomb disposal experts were called to the scene. A subsequent check determined that the object was a training grenade and did not pose any danger, Caliber.Az reports via Kazakh media.
According to the detainee, he carried the knife for everyday purposes and claimed he had found the grenade earlier. These statements are being verified.
Authorities also confirmed that the man has a prior criminal record.
Almaty police urged citizens not to carry potentially dangerous items and to immediately report any objects resembling weapons or ammunition by calling “102.”
