Sweden boosts Ukraine support with coastguard ships, gas masks 9.3$ million aid
Sweden will supply Ukraine with two coastguard ships and 40,000 gas masks, Swedish Civil Defence Minister Carl-Oskar Bohlin announced on social media platform X.
The aid package, valued at $9.3 million, includes the gas masks and maritime equipment, Caliber.Az reports citing foreign media.
During his visit, Bohlin also signed an agreement with Ukrainian Interior Minister Igor Klymenko to deepen civil defence cooperation between the two nations.
"I had the great honour to present a new civilian aid package to Ukraine consisting of 40,000 gas masks worth 100 million Swedish kronor ($9.3 million), as well as two large coast guard ships with additional equipment," Bohlin stated.
This follows Sweden's October announcement of a separate $10.36 million humanitarian aid package for Ukraine to assist with winter preparations.
The package includes 50 million kronor ($4.71 million) for essential services like heat, electricity, and the distribution of food, medicine, and water. Another 20 million kronor ($1.88 million) will be directed to the UNHCR to help displaced persons, 30 million kronor ($2.82 million) will be allocated for demining, and 10 million kronor ($1.04 million) is set aside to support victims of violence, including sexual and gender-based violence.
Additionally, in late October, it was reported that G7 countries had agreed on a $50 billion loan package for Ukraine, with repayments to be made from frozen Russian sovereign assets in the future.
