Sweden to deploy military contingent in Eastern Europe after NATO access
09 December 2022 10:30
After joining NATO, the Swedish army will send a contingent to Europe.
“In this way, we want to contribute to strengthening the alliance,” the Japanese Yomiuri newspaper quotes the country's Defense Minister Paul Jonsson as saying.
He added that Sweden's entry into the North Atlantic Alliance is a key task for the new cabinet of ministers. It is assumed that Swedish troops will be sent to Eastern Europe in the NATO Rapid Reaction Force, which is planned to be expanded from the current 40,000 to more than 300,000 troops.
Jonson also spoke about increasing the country's military spending - by 2026 it is planned to increase from 1.3 to 2% of GDP.
