Switzerland to join two EU security cooperation projects
Switzerland said it would participate in two European Union security initiatives aimed at strengthening cooperation between armed forces in a bid to boost the neutral country's defence capabilities.
The Federal Council said it had decided to take part in the projects belonging to the EU's Permanent Structured Cooperation (PESCO) "Military Mobility" and "Cyber Ranges Federation", Caliber.Az reports citing foreign media.
The Federal Council stated that Switzerland's involvement in these projects aligns with its neutrality. The "Military Mobility" project aims to streamline cross-border transport and movement processes for military operations, which will benefit Switzerland's international missions, including training and peacekeeping activities.
The "Cyber Ranges Federation" initiative focuses on improving cyber defense cooperation, an area of increasing importance given recent rises in cyberattacks and disinformation.
Approximately 25 EU member states, along with Canada, Norway, and the United States, participate in the "Military Mobility" initiative, coordinated by the Netherlands.
By joining the European Cyber Security Organization (ECSO) earlier this year, Switzerland aims to enhance its cybersecurity measures through access to the latest technological advancements and expert networks.
