Tajik President Rahmon condemns drone attack on Putin’s residence
Tajikistan’s President Emomali Rahmon has condemned the recent drone attack on Russian President Vladimir Putin’s state residence in Novgorod Oblast, during a phone conversation with his Russian counterpart, the Tajik presidential press service reported.
“The head of our state condemned the recent drone attack on the residence of the President of the Russian Federation in Novgorod Oblast. It was emphasised that such actions, which threaten state facilities and the safety of national leadership, are unacceptable and hinder the negotiation process aimed at achieving peace and stability,” the statement said.
The leaders also exchanged New Year greetings for 2026, praised the positive momentum in bilateral cooperation, and reaffirmed their intention to further strengthen strategic partnership in the coming year.
The alleged drone attack on Russian President Vladimir Putin’s residence in Novgorod came amid renewed US–Ukraine talks in Florida, where Presidents Trump and Zelenskyy discussed a revised peace plan to end the war. Russia claimed that Kyiv launched 91 drones at the residence, all of which were reportedly intercepted, and threatened to revise its negotiating stance.
Ukraine and President Zelenskyy denied the allegations, calling them “typical Russian lies” intended to justify continued attacks on Ukraine. The incident has heightened tensions as both sides maintain their positions in ongoing peace negotiations.
