Tajikistan resumes regular flights to Iran

After a two-year break caused by the coronavirus pandemic, Tajikistan has resumed regular flights to Iran.

According to Tehran-based news agency IRNA, the first Dushanbe-Tehran flight will be carried out on June 13.

The Iranian air carrier, Iran Air, will operate the Dushanbe-Tehran-Dushanbe flight twice a week.

“If possible, [Tajik national air carrier] Somon Air will also operate flights on this route,” IRNA says.

It is also reported that the number of flights will gradually increase to four times per week.

Tajikistan suspended all flights to Iran on February 24, 2020, as a precautionary measure after Tehran announced the highest death toll from the coronavirus outside of China.

The Asia-Plus news service reported that Iran is one of the most popular destinations for Tajik citizens since the two peoples have common historical, linguistic, and cultural ties.
