Tasnim: Iran-US talks collapse due to Washington’s “excessive demands”
Iranian officials have blamed the United States for the failure of negotiations, according to Tasnim News Agency.
The agency reported that the sides were unable to reach a common framework for an agreement due to what it described as “excessive demands and ambitions of Washington.”
“The negotiations between the Iranian and American teams have just concluded, and both sides have not yet reached an agreement,” the report said.
According to Tasnim, consultations lasted 21 hours and were held at multiple levels. It added that the Iranian delegation repeatedly showed readiness to engage and proposed a more realistic approach, but no breakthrough was achieved. The delegation reportedly left Islamabad after the talks with the US.
The main sticking point remains Iran’s nuclear programme. The US side is insisting on strict guarantees regarding the abandonment of any military dimension, while Iran is not prepared to fully give up uranium enrichment, according to sources cited by CNN.
The failure of the talks also raises questions about the future of the previously announced two-week ceasefire. One of Washington’s key conditions remains the opening of the Strait of Hormuz, through which a significant share of global oil shipments passes. Without an agreement, risks to global energy markets remain.
