Tbilisi criticizes Brussels for going beyond delegated powers

02 July 2026 16:34

Georgia’s Foreign Minister Maka Botchorishvili said there is growing dissatisfaction within the European Union over what she described as the expanding powers of Brussels.

According to Georgian media, cited by Caliber.Az, Botchorishvili pointed to longstanding debates within the EU about the role of the European External Action Service, its authority, and whether foreign policy should remain the responsibility of member states or be shaped at a supranational level.

“Concerns and statements are increasingly being voiced that Brussels is doing more than is permitted by the powers delegated to it by EU countries. The EU’s foreign policy must be conducted strictly within the powers defined by the member states,” she said.
