Tbilisi erupts in protest over planned university merger
In Tbilisi, students, professors, and members of the academic community have once again taken to the streets to protest the proposed merger of Georgia’s two largest universities.
Demonstrators gathered outside the administrative building of the Georgian Technical University, voicing strong opposition to plans to merge the institution with Tbilisi State University. They are demanding that the government cancel the decision, citing concerns over academic autonomy and the potential impact on the quality of higher education.
The protesters have called for a formal meeting with the Minister of Education, as well as members of the relevant parliamentary committee, in order to present their arguments against the merger and seek a reconsideration of the plan.
