Tbilisi mayor accuses German ambassador of supporting violent group in Georgia

01 November 2025 10:28

Tbilisi Mayor Kakha Kaladze has sharply criticised German Ambassador Peter Fischer, alleging that he is a key figure in the “violent group” operating in the Georgian capital.

Speaking to reporters, Kaladze expressed regret but emphasised that it was a fact that Fischer was involved in the unrest on the streets of Tbilisi, Caliber.Az reports per Georgian media

“I regret and find it unpleasant to say, but it is a fact that the German Ambassador is a part of the violent group represented in Tbilisi,” he said.

He further stated that the events unfolding in the Georgian capital were orchestrated and funded from abroad, claiming that foreign powers were backing the opposition and directing actions in Georgia.

“They have their foreign patrons and their representatives in the country who are directly involved in managing the processes. This is regrettable,” he added.

On October 19, the German Foreign Ministry recalled Ambassador Fischer for consultations, citing sustained agitation from the Georgian leadership against German and EU representation. This move came after the Georgian Prime Minister, Irakli Kobakhidze, accused Fischer of interfering in Georgia’s internal affairs and backing the opposition.
