TCG Volkan: Türkiye's strategic gift to strengthen Maldives' defence capabilities PHOTO

In a significant boost to the Maldives' defense capabilities, Türkiye is gifting the fast attack boat TCG Volkan, a state-of-the-art Doğan-class vessel designed for speed and power. This strategic donation marks a new chapter in the growing defense collaboration between the two nations.

According to Turkish media, the handover of TCG Volkan is set to take place between April and June, as part of an agreement between the Republic of Türkiye and the Maldives, Caliber.Az reports.

The fast attack boat, which was built and maintained at the renowned Istanbul shipyard, will be transported to the Maldives via sea on a transport ship equipped with a dry dock.

Once TCG Volkan reaches the Maldives, a specialized team from the Turkish Navy will oversee its commissioning and operationalization. This collaboration underscores the strong military ties between the two countries, with Türkiye continuing to support the Maldives in bolstering its defense infrastructure.

The approval process for the boat’s grant is expected to conclude in July, and upon its official induction into the Maldives' defense forces, the TCG Volkan will undergo intensive training. The entire crew will be put through two weeks of hands-on training aboard the vessel, under the expert guidance of a Turkish Navy training team.

This donation is a major step forward in strengthening the Maldives' naval capabilities, ensuring greater maritime security in the region, and solidifying Türkiye’s commitment to supporting its allies through advanced defense technology.
