Teenager with 172-year sentence detained in Türkiye
A 17-year-old boy with a combined finalised prison sentence of 172 years and 3 days has been arrested in a police operation in Beşiktaş, Istanbul.
According to information obtained, officers from the Beşiktaş District Police Department’s Mobile Patrol Units stopped the suspect during routine public security checks on April 23 in the Sinanpaşa neighbourhood after noticing suspicious behaviour, Caliber.Az reports via Turkish media.
A General Information Gathering (GBT) check revealed that the teenager, identified by initials B.D., had 130 separate criminal records and was wanted under a finalised prison sentence totalling 172 years and 3 days. He was immediately taken into custody.
Further investigation showed that B.D. was also subject to 28 separate case files across multiple districts in Istanbul — including Bahçelievler, Kadıköy, Bağcılar, Şişli, Ataşehir, Pendik, Bakırköy, Kartal, Üsküdar and Büyükçekmece — as well as İzmit in Kocaeli province.
He was reportedly wanted in connection with offences including property damage and impersonating an official in order to commit theft.
Following procedures at the police station, the suspect was transferred to court and subsequently remanded in custody and sent to prison.
