Tehran denies Al Arabiya report on uranium transfer deal as "false"

05 June 2026 16:54

A source close to Iran’s negotiating team dismissed as “completely false” a report by Al Arabiya network claiming that Tehran had agreed to transfer part of its enriched uranium stockpiles to a third country.

The report, which could not be independently verified, alleged that Iran had consented to relocate a portion of its uranium inventory to a mutually agreed foreign state as part of ongoing diplomatic understandings, WANA reports.

Rejecting the claim, the source said nuclear-related issues are not currently included in the present phase of talks and have been postponed to later stages of negotiations.

“The issue of transferring uranium stockpiles is not on the current negotiating agenda,” the source said, adding that progress would first require “concrete and definitive actions” from the United States and agreement on what were described as fundamental outstanding issues.

The source reiterated that any suggestion of Iranian consent to move enriched uranium abroad was inaccurate.

The denial comes against the backdrop of a stalled diplomatic track between Tehran and Washington aimed at establishing a cessation of hostilities framework followed by a structured 60-day negotiation period.

The process has reportedly been frozen following recent escalatory developments in the region, including US strikes on commercial vessels near southern Iran and Israel’s military actions in southern Lebanon.

Despite the suspension, both sides have previously indicated openness to resuming indirect contacts, though key disagreements over sequencing, verification mechanisms and sanctions relief continue to hinder progress.
