Tehran eyes power shift in strategic waterway, says top adviser
19 March 2026 14:16
An adviser to Iran’s leadership Mohammad Mokhber has said the country intends to leverage the war to reshape its position in the strategic Strait of Hormuz, Iran International reports.
Mokhber described the current situation as “one of the most important opportunities” to redefine Iran’s influence over the vital waterway.
“After the imposed war, by defining a new regime for the Strait of Hormuz, Iran will move from being under sanctions to a powerful position in the region and the world,” he said.
Mokhber added that Western powers had previously “restricted” Iran, but the outcome of the war could shift that balance, potentially enhancing Tehran’s regional and global standing.
