Tehran governor announces end of protests

The governor of governor Iran's Tehran province, Mohsen Mansouri, has said that riots have ended in the province.

“I inform you that the recent unrest has ended and Tehran has been safe for several days,” Mansouri told the ISNA news agency.

He added that the authorities are separating the “misguided people from the rebels” and are dealing with “the elite who fanned the flames of unrest.”

The protests began in mid-September in Iran after the death of 22-year-old Iranian Mahsa Amini, who was detained by the morality police.

Dozens of people were killed and hundreds were detained during the protests which took place in about 30 cities. The Iranian authorities accuse the West of “supporting the rebels.”
