Tehran hosts farewell ceremony for Hamas leader Haniyeh

A farewell ceremony has been held in Tehran for Ismail Haniyeh, the head of the Political Bureau of the Palestinian Hamas movement, who was killed in an assassination attempt.

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and high-ranking civil and military officials attended the ceremony, Caliber.Az reported citing Iranian media.

The funeral prayer was held on the campus of Tehran University with the participation of the country's spiritual leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

A limited number of people performed the prayer, but thousands gathered in front of the university gates.

After the ceremony, the body of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh will be transported to Qatar.

The funeral prayer and ceremony will be held in the Qatari capital on August 2.
