Iran says it struck US base at al-Tanf in Syria UPDATED

Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said it had carried out strikes on a U.S. military base at al-Tanf in southern Syria, claiming to have inflicted damage on the facility, according to Iran’s Press TV.

The IRGC said its forces destroyed U.S. radar systems and helicopters at the base. It also claimed the attack resulted in multiple casualties among U.S. military personnel.

Two oil tankers caught fire in the Strait of Hormuz following explosions, Iran’s state media corporation IRIB reported, citing official sources.

Iran’s armed forces described the vessels as “violators,” saying they had been navigating along what it called a “dangerous southern route” before being stopped. No further details were provided about the ownership or destination of the ships.

Rescue teams have been deployed to evacuate the crews from both tankers, according to the report.

In a separate statement, the naval forces of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) called on shipping companies not to trust “disinformation from the American military” and urged them to avoid routes it described as unsafe.

Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said it carried out a series of missile strikes targeting U.S. assets in the region, including a military base in Jordan and infrastructure in Bahrain, according to state media reports.

The IRGC said a missile strike hit a U.S. military base in Jordan, claiming that a missile defence radar system and a U.S. F-15 fighter jet inside a hangar were “destroyed.” The claims, reported by IRIB, could not be independently verified.

In a separate statement, the IRGC said it had targeted a data centre belonging to U.S. technology company Amazon in Bahrain.

“In response to yesterday’s attack by the American army on facilities under construction and civilian infrastructure in Darkhoveyn, several cruise missiles struck the infrastructure of a data centre belonging to the American company Amazon in Bahrain and destroyed it,” the IRGC said.

The strikes were described by Iran as retaliation for what it said was a U.S. attack on the Darkhoveyn nuclear power plant project in southwestern Iran. On July 19, the Atomic Energy Organisation of Iran (AEOI) said the under-construction facility had been hit by U.S. forces.

Iranian officials have also said that U.S. military bases in Kuwait and Bahrain were targeted overnight, though no independent confirmation has been provided.
