Temperatures to drop sharply across Kazakhstan from December 27
Kazakhstan is set to face a period of harsh winter weather as an active north-western cyclone moves across the country over the next few days.
Forecasters say the system will bring widespread snow, while southern regions can expect a mix of snow and rain, Caliber.Az reports.
On December 26, particularly heavy precipitation is expected in the south and south-east, raising the risk of local flooding.
Blizzards and strong winds are predicted nationwide, with icy conditions likely in western and southern areas.
Following the cyclone, a cold western anticyclone will move in on December 27, bringing a sharp drop in temperatures and clearing skies.
Night-time lows are expected to plunge to -25°C to -30°C in the north-west and northern regions, and between -22°C and -30°C in the east.
Authorities in Astana have urged residents to take precautions against the extreme cold and hazardous road conditions.
