Ten detained over armed attack near Israeli consulate in Istanbul VIDEO
Ten people have been detained as part of an investigation into an armed attack outside the Israeli Consulate General in Istanbul’s Beşiktaş district, Turkish authorities said.
Officials said two of those detained are currently receiving medical treatment in hospital, Caliber.Az reports via Turkish media.
The attack took place on April 7, when three gunmen opened fire near the consulate and exchanged shots with police officers stationed in the area. Two police officers sustained minor injuries in the clash.
During the confrontation, one of the attackers was killed, while the other two were captured wounded. Authorities said the suspects had travelled from the nearby city of Izmit in a rented car.
Turkish Interior Minister, Mustafa Çiftçi, said the attacker who was killed had been identified as having links to “an organisation that exploits religion.” The Turkish Interior Ministry previously stated that the assailants had connections to ISIS.
The investigation is ongoing.
