Tens of billions of dollars behind TRACECA’s growing project pipeline
A total of 114 transport projects worth more than $71.75 billion are being implemented or planned across Central Asia, with the largest share of investment directed toward the TRACECA corridor, including the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route.
According to AZERTAC, the figures are contained in updated data from the Transport Project Observatory of the Eurasian Transport Framework operated by the Eurasian Development Bank (EDB). The data is current as of July 1, 2026. The Observatory is a digital platform containing information on the development of transport corridors across 13 countries.
A total of 402 ongoing and planned projects are listed under the Eurasian Transport Framework, representing total investment of $345 billion. Central Asian countries account for more than 21% of this investment, with over $71.75 billion allocated to 114 projects.
In 2025, major transport projects worth more than $6 billion in total investment were completed across Central Asia. In Turkmenistan, the Ashgabat–Mary–Turkmenabat highway and the Turkmenbashi–Garabogaz–Kazakhstan border section of the North–South International Transport Corridor were commissioned.
In Kazakhstan, the modernisation of the Dostyk–Moyynty railway line was completed. In Kyrgyzstan, a tunnel was constructed at the Kok-Art Pass as part of the alternative North–South road. In Tajikistan, several sections of the Obigarm–Nurobod road were completed. In Uzbekistan, the Bukhara–Urgench–Khiva railway was electrified, allowing high-speed passenger services to be launched.
Nearly 56% of investment in Central Asian countries is directed toward developing road networks, while another 29.8% is allocated to railway sections along transport corridors.
The largest share of investment in the development of the Eurasian Transport Framework in Central Asia — $42.8 billion — is directed toward sections of the TRACECA corridor, including the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route (TITR). Kazakhstan accounts for more than 45% of the total value of the projects.
