Baku, Tehran discuss expanding ties in transit, energy and infrastructure

Azerbaijan and Iran have discussed ways to expand economic cooperation, with a focus on transit, energy and cross-border infrastructure, Iran’s Ministry of Roads and Urban Development said.

The discussion took place during a phone call between Iranian Minister of Roads and Urban Development Farzaneh Sadegh and Azerbaijani Deputy Prime Minister and co-chair of the Azerbaijan-Iran Joint Intergovernmental Commission on Economic Cooperation Shahin Mustafayev, Caliber.Az reports via Iranian media.

They praised the positive momentum in relations between the two countries and stressed the importance of continuing high-level consultations. Referring to specialized meetings held on gas, electricity and transport, Sadegh called for accelerating the establishment of joint committees to monitor the implementation of decisions reached at those meetings.

Addressing the damage caused to transport infrastructure by recent regional tensions, the Iranian minister said that restoring damaged transport routes was a priority, despite the existing challenges, while ongoing infrastructure projects continued without interruption.

She attributed the strengthening of relations between Tehran and Baku to the will of the two countries’ presidents.

During the phone call, Mustafayev also expressed satisfaction with the progress of railway projects, noting that the railway line in Azerbaijan leading to the settlement of Agband had been completed and that the completion of the section leading to Iran would bring significant changes to the region’s transit and logistics capabilities.

Mustafayev praised the professional efforts of Iran’s Ministry of Roads and Urban Development in repairing damaged infrastructure.

At the end of the call, the sides exchanged views on recent regional developments, emphasizing deeper strategic and economic cooperation as a key factor for stability and development in the region.
