AZAL sets course for net-zero emissions by 2050
07 September 2026 16:31
Azerbaijan Airlines (AZAL) is developing a strategy to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050, the airline's ESG data management business partner, Mahammad Aliyev, has said.
Speaking at a carbon markets discussion during Baku Climate Action Week 2026, Aliyev said 90% of the planned emissions reductions would come from measures within the aviation sector, Caliber.Az reports.
AZAL is acquiring new aircraft expected to reduce emissions by 15-20%, he said.
The airline has also been using sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) on European flights since last year, with the current share at 2%. This is expected to rise to about 30% by 2050.
Aliyev said optimising fleet and route management was also expected to reduce emissions by 8%.
