Thailand says it has over 90 days of oil reserves
Suphajee Suthumpun, the minister of commerce of Thailand, has urged the public not to panic amid the ongoing conflict involving Iran, saying the government is closely monitoring energy prices and coordinating measures to protect consumers.
According to The Nation, Suthumpun said Thai authorities are carefully tracking developments in global energy markets and maintaining coordination among government ministries in response to the situation.
She called on the population to remain calm and rely on official updates.
Authorities have also established a special centre to closely monitor the situation and coordinate measures aimed at protecting the public, the minister said. Preparations have already been made for possible unexpected developments in both the short and long term.
Suthumpun added that government agencies capable of shifting employees to remote work can implement such arrangements immediately, while other institutions should assess whether remote work could be introduced. She emphasised that any transition to working from home should be practical and balanced.
The minister also sought to reassure the public about the country’s energy security. According to her, Thailand currently has oil reserves sufficient for more than 90 days.
Officials are also exploring additional fuel sources and have reviewed the potential use of alternative energy inputs such as biodiesel, cassava, sugarcane and ethanol in order to mitigate the impact of external factors.
“Although some things remain beyond Thailand’s control, the government is doing everything possible to minimize the consequences and maintain stability,” Suthumpun said.
