Thousands left without power as snow hits Georgia
Thousands of subscribers in the Imereti region are still without power after heavy snowfall caused problems in several regions of Georgia, Caliber.Az reports citing Georgian media.
Heavy equipment is working around the clock to eliminate the consequences of snowfall in several regions of Georgia. Meteorologists say that the weather is not going to improve. According to their forecasts, rain and wind are expected in the next few days.
The situation in the Imereti region is difficult. Residents are cut off from the outside world in three district administrations.
"The main problems remain in Sachkhere, Chiatura and Kharagauli. The number of villages cut off from the outside world has reached 30. They are all in these three districts," Imereti Governor Zviad Shalamberidze said.
The situation with restoring electricity remains difficult, there's still a lot of work to be done and many people still remain without power, he noted.
In Adjara, work is underway to clear the roads of snow.
"There is a lot of snow in the high-altitude zones of the districts of Keda, Shuahevi and Khulo. All the machines we have are working in all directions. First of all, we are clearing the roads leading to the administrative units," said Mamuka Turmanidze, head of the Adjara Roads Department.
The situation is also tense in Samtskhe-Javakheti, where snow has already reached a metre.
