Three detained in Russia’s Makhachkala for alleged church bombing plot

The Sovetskiy District Court of Makhachkala has arrested three residents of Kaspiysk on suspicion of creating a terrorist community with the intent to carry out a church bombing.

"The petitions of the investigation bodies to elect a measure of restraint in the form of remand in custody against three residents of the city of Kaspiysk suspected of committing crimes under part 1 of Article 205.4, part 3 of Article 223.1, part 1 of Article 30, and paragraph ‘a’ of part 2 of Article 205 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation have been considered. The court, by its rulings, elected a measure of restraint in the form of remand in custody for two months," Caliber.Az says, citing the press service of the Supreme Court of Dagestan as reported by a foreign media outlet.

According to court materials, the men formed a stable group and created a terrorist community with the intent to bomb the Church of the Kazan Icon of the Mother of God along with its parishioners in Kaspiysk. They also planned to commit other particularly serious crimes. The suspects independently manufactured an explosive device and stored it at the residence of one of the members until law enforcement officers intervened and halted their activities.
