Tokayev highlights Kazakhstan's role in Baku-Yerevan peace process

24 May 2024 17:39

Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, during his lecture as part of a state visit to Singapore, highlighted Kazakhstan's efforts to facilitate the peace process between Azerbaijan and Armenia.

Azertag reports citing the press service of the head of state that President Tokayev outlined his perspective on the role of middle powers in fostering global security, stability, and sustainable development.

In addition to discussing Kazakhstan's mediation in the Iranian nuclear program and the Astana process for resolving the Syrian conflict, President Tokayev also mentioned the recent deployment of the first independent peacekeeping contingent under the UN mission to the Golan Heights region.

He reiterated Kazakhstan's commitment to defending its legitimate rights and interests while upholding the country's fundamental principles. President Tokayev emphasized that Kazakhstan's stance, often perceived as neutral, is a deliberate choice rooted in diplomacy and dialogue rather than confrontation. He asserted that this approach strengthens Kazakhstan's ability to address deep divisions, ranging from territorial disputes to ideological conflicts.
