Tokayev names Aidos Myrzakhmetov Kazakhstan’s new defence minister

Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev has appointed Aidos Myrzakhmetov, commander of the Special Operations Forces, as the country’s new defence minister, according to a decree published on the official website of the head of state.

“Appoint Aidos Myrzakhmetov as Minister of Defence of the Republic of Kazakhstan, relieving him of his previous position,” the statement said.

Tokayev previously dismissed Defence Minister Dauren Kosanov following the deaths of servicemen during exercises in the Caspian Sea.
