Top security official represents Russia at Tehran farewell for Ali Khamenei
Russian Security Council Deputy Chairman Dmitry Medvedev attended the farewell ceremony for former Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei in Tehran on July 3, joining foreign dignitaries paying their respects.
Medvedev briefly met with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian on the sidelines of the ceremony, Caliber.Az reports, citing Russian media.
The commemorative events began with a separate ceremony for foreign delegations, as well as political and public figures. Russian Energy Minister Sergei Tsivilev was also among the participants.
Later in the day, the remains of the former supreme leader were transferred to the Imam Khomeini Musalla religious complex in Tehran as part of the official mourning ceremonies.
Representatives from more than 30 countries, including Russia, China, Pakistan, India, Georgia and Cuba, traveled to Iran to attend the funeral ceremonies.
