Toyota registers trademark in Russia, plans return despite 2022 exit
Japanese automaker Toyota, which exited the Russian market in 2022, has registered a new trademark in the country, signalling plans to re-enter the market.
The company filed an application for the word mark Wigo in October 2024, and Rospatent approved the registration in January 2026, Caliber.Az reports via Russian media.
The automaker intends to sell cars, vans, trucks, SUVs, off-road vehicles, and electric vehicles under the Wigo brand in Russia.
Toyota had ceased production in Russia in 2022. On the domestic market, it operates through Toyota Motor LLC. The company’s revenue has dropped dramatically since 2021, from 332 billion rubles (~$4.32 billion) to 7.2 billion rubles (~$94 million) last year. Despite this, Toyota reported a profit of 2.5 billion rubles (~$32.5 million) for the previous year.
