Trade seen as key driver of Armenia-Azerbaijan peace process—envoy

The expansion of trade and implementation of joint economic projects between Armenia and Azerbaijan could serve as important drivers of the peace process, Armenian Ambassador to the United States Narek Mkrtchyan said.

“For the support of peace, it is necessary to implement joint economic and trade projects,” Mkrtchyan said during an appearance on The Parliament podcast hosted by the Heritage Foundation, Caliber.Az reports, citing Armenian media.

The Armenian diplomat stressed that peace should not be viewed solely as the outcome of a political agreement, but rather as an ongoing process requiring concrete and practical steps from all parties.

According to Mkrtchyan, greater economic and trade cooperation could help reinforce the foundations of lasting peace between the two countries.
