Tram collision leaves numerous injured in Russia’s Kemerovo

Two trams collided in Russia’s Kemerovo city on June 6 morning.

Over 90 people were injured, 78 of them were hospitalized, one person died, TASS reports.

The trams collided on Logovaya Highway near the Kuznetsky Bridge - one of two bridges over the Tom River.

The second bridge is partially closed due to overhaul. The trams were moving in the same direction and collided near the Naberezhnaya tram stop. The incident occurred at around 07:30 (GMT+3).

 Mayor of Kemerovo city Dmitry Anisimov said that blood is not required, 11 people are undergoing outpatient treatment.

Acting Governor of the Kemerovo Region Ilya Seredyuk said that the hospitals are provided with the necessary equipment and medicines.

A criminal case has been initiated under Part 2 of Article 238 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (rendering services that do not meet the requirements for the safety of life or health of people).

The Kemerovo Region Prosecutor's Office controls the investigation.

The causes of the tram collision could be brake failure and human error. An operational headquarters, headed by Dmitry Anisimov, was created.
