TRT TÜRKÜ commemorates Day of Genocide of Azerbaijanis
TRT TÜRKÜ aired a special program on the Day of Genocide of Azerbaijanis, marking March 31, which was featured in the ongoing series "Azarbaycan ruzigarı" (Azerbaijani Wind) since the beginning of 2024.
The program's author and host, Saida Omar, an Azerbaijani residing in Turkey and a doctoral student at Istanbul University, shared insights with Azertac about the broadcast's purpose.
She emphasized that one of the primary objectives of "Azarbaycan ruzigarı" during its four-year tenure on Turkey's media landscape has been to shed light on the genocide perpetrated against the Azerbaijani people to the global audience.
"In this program, we recounted the atrocities of the March-April 1918 genocide in Azerbaijan, drawing upon the works of our esteemed writers and composers who captured the essence of those tragic days. Azerbaijani mughams resonated, paying homage to the memory of the martyrs," Saida Omar conveyed.
Furthermore, she informed listeners that since 1988, March 31 has been designated as the Day of Genocide of Azerbaijanis by order of Heydar Aliyev, the revered national leader of Azerbaijan.
"As both the author and presenter of this program and, above all, as an Azerbaijani, I view it as my solemn duty to share the narrative of this harrowing chapter in our people's history with a broader audience," Saida Omar added.
Highlighting the resilience of the Azerbaijani people, Saida Omar reflected on their enduring spirit in the face of similar adversities throughout history. She underscored Azerbaijan's current strength as a nation and its formidable military prowess, capable of overcoming any challenge posed by adversaries.
